UNODC Report on Trafficking in Medical Products

With the high prevalence of infectious diseases in the Sahel countries and neighbours and the challenges in availability and affordability of access to healthcare, it creates a high demand for medical products and services. These needs unfortunately don’t always get met through formal channels.

At least 605 tons of different medical products were seized in West Africa during international operations between 2017 and 2021.
