Bridging the Gaps in Access to Essential Medicines
Access to essential medicines remains uneven worldwide. A study in India’s aspirational districts showed encouraging progress, with most treatments affordable and widely available. In stark contrast, Sudan’s civil war has led to severe shortages and unaffordable prices, leaving many without life-saving drugs. Meanwhile, Brazil continues to face systemic barriers, economic inequalities, import dependence, and limited R&D investment that restrict equitable access.
Together, these studies reveal that true progress toward “health for all” requires stronger systems, local production, and policies that make medicines both available and affordable for everyone.
