African Medicines Agency
In recent months, 15 African Union Member States have ratified the Treaty for the creation of the African Medicines Agency, which will ease the monitoring of safety and effectiveness of marketed medicines and vaccines across Africa. Following the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(Africa CDC), the African Medicines Agency will be the second cross-continental African health agency.
The value of AMA, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, is demonstrated by the critical role played by a similar regional body, the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
